Charyn Canyon is a natural monument composed of sedimentary rocks, the age of which is about 12 million years. The height of the steep mountains of the canyon reaches 150-300 m. The most interesting place for tourists is the so-called Valley of Castles, whose length is about 2 km, width - 20-80 m. Charyn Canyon - a unique monument of nature. Recently it became part of the national park 'Charyn'. This place really keeps many secrets, but they are not connected with mysticism, but with science. Sedimentary rocks, of which there are sheer rocks, can tell a lot about the life of our planet 12 million years ago.
The history of the Charyn canyon began about twelve million years ago, when most of the territory that we now call Charyn, was occupied by the Ili Lake. After its drying, the water artery connected to the Ili River. Over time, the water flow capacity increased, and the volume of the washed rock from the ground grew. Gradually the water penetrated deeper, and the wind milled limestone rocks, carving out bizarre figures. The result of hundreds of thousands of years of
work - the canyon, which stretches for 154 km in length and has steep cliffs ranging in height from 150 to 300 meters.
For many centuries, water has been excavated in the rocks by a large number of caves, arches and grottoes. The huge blocks, towering above the ground, are like the heads of ancient stone giants who are about to wake up. At first this place may seem lifeless. However, this is not the case. Here live more than sixty species of mammals, about a hundred different birds and twenty-five species of reptiles.
