Height above sea level: 2511 meters. Like the vast majority of Tien-Shan lakes, it arose as a result of earthquakes. Three main peaks rise from the lake at the northern end of the dam: the Peak Sovetov (4317 m) - in the southeast, the Ozerny Peak (4110 m) - in the south and Peak Tourist (3954 m) - to the south-west of the lake.
North-west of the peak 'Tourist' is the crest of the Great Almaty peak, a pyramid with a height of 6881 m. Depending on the season, the lake changes its color from light green to turquoise-blue.
