The lake is second-largest among internal reservoirs of Kazakhstan and the only thing deep-water among бессточных lakes of Republic.
It is known, that it is a lot of years back by water "bowls" entitled Alakol passed the famous Great Silk way. Already in those days caravaneers, not in forces to refuse after a tedious way from освежения in waters of lake, have noticed salty waves in the wonderful image restore forces and strengthen health.
Modern medical researches confirms medical qualities of lake water.

Pure steppe air, salty water, hot volcanic pebble, with a high content of silicon is a unique combination of gifts of the Nature gives powerful improving and preventive effect at problems with a leather, joints, female and man's problems, at the lowered immunity at children and adults.

The most unique abundance of lake Alakol is the medical dirt which is applied at treatment of various diseases of joints, radiculitises, skin illnesses, restoration after traumas. In the central part of lake the archipelago from three islands on which in 1998 has been created national park Alakolsky which is unique varied flora and fauna is located.

Every year on coast of lake person has a rest more than hundred thousand.
